Since our church doesn't own its own building, we are renting another church building, which means we don't meet until 1pm. Makes for an interesting day to be sure! haha! Trying to figure out foods and naps......interesting is one word I've used. Rough is another.
The toddlers just don't nap on Sunday's, which was crazy hard at first. They have adjusted and it's not as "traumatic" anymore. (Mostly kidding haha) During Education Hour, which is at 2:30, I let them play a simple game on a phone as they are at their beyond done point. But they are getting better!! Makenzie, the baby, is getting better at napping and she's been sleeping during our main service, and often through Education Hour. yay!
Sunday mornings are very slow. We let the kids watch movie, play some video games with each other, other games are done, sometimes puzzles happen, toys are played with, reading.....just a nice slow morning. At some point everyone pitches in to get the kitchen cleaned up from breakfast and a quick whole house clean up done. I usually oversee this since this is part of my daily job. At 10 I usually turn on a YouTube channel thats about a large family or listen to a podcast while I make lunch.
For a *long* time I was making cinnamon buns as our special treat, but we kinda got a little tired of that. Now we're into waffles and bacon. 😁
We eat at 11, making sure everyone gets as full as possible. Not easy since they just had breakfast a couple of hours before. It helps when there is something yummy.
This past Sunday we added in some fun toppings of homemade hot fudge sauce, frozen fruit (some of my kids adore frozen fruit!!), and whipped topping.
Once everyone is done eating, we all pitch in to clean up. We're usually done with eating and clean up by 11:35. Then we head upstairs to start getting ready for church. As I get kids dressed and hair done, I send them down to the living room to play. I get myself ready last and then we're out the door to load up at 12:15.
We've got getting ready to get out the door pretty streamlined and it goes quick, even though there are 12 of us. I'm very hands on getting the youngest 4 ready to go, check the next 2 boys clothes and help adjust buttons or shoelaces as needed, do two older girls hair (sometimes 3 of them), and then myself. So not too bad! 😊
Usually we get home around 4pm and then it looks like a small explosion happened. There is often morning clothes laying around and other stuff from getting ready to leave, then we change into comfy clothes when we get home so then there is often church clothes and shoes laying around. Ideally clothes are put into the dirty clothes and shoes on the shelf.....but it doesn't always happen. And I don't worry about checking up. Not on Sunday's.
The rest of the afternoon and evening is spent grazing and snacking and visiting and resting and often going for a walk. Because the toddlers didn't nap, they are in bed by 7:30, the baby goes at 8 and then it's just older kids up which is fun.
