I posted this photo recently with this explanation:
Trying to do my devotions this morning and kids were starting to do their morning chores. Most of them do just fine on their own, but my 4yo gets super distracted, forgets what he was doing, or thinks he actually did the job when he really didn’t. Got creative this morning. Hung a walkie talkie around his neck and sent him to do his jobs. Every few verses I would use my walkie talkie and remind him what he was supposed to be doing. 😂
Someone commented "He is the baby. He needs to do less because he is the BABY!"
Got me to thinking.
My first thought was “Well. There are actually two babies under him……” 😂
And then “why *wouldnt* I give my 4yo a couple of age appropriate chores?” 🤔
I want all of my kids to grow up knowing how to work, how to be responsible, how to serve others, and to be able to care for their home. The boys I want to know how to take ownership, to do inside work as well as more manly jobs, and to be able to provide for their family. The girls need to know how to run their home, plus plunge toilets or clean a stuck drain, mow the grass…..
But not only that, we are *created to work*!!!
After commenting he’s not the baby baby of the family, I also told the person that he usually takes great pride and joy in having chores like the big kids. Not every day. But most of the time he’s happy to have responsibilities and be on the path to becoming a big kid. Right now he’s just getting distracted by his lego ship he’s been building. 😄
If I don’t take the time to teach my kids to work, to enjoy work, and to remind them that working is a good thing and they were created TO work....who will?
Babies and Littles are SOOO easy to mold and shape. I want to take advantage of that and instill in them Truths of Christ. And one of those is that working is good. To work hard. To work well.
As he gets older he will learn that not all jobs are fun or easy to do. But, LORD willing, he will have some strong character traits, so he will be able to do those hard jobs. And do them well. Because when he was 4, he learned how to take out the trash for mama joyfully.
Teaching them to love to work, mama. Don't grow weary.💕
